What is a spiral wrapped fishing rod anyway?
A sprial wrapped rod is a fishing rod where the guides on a bait casting rod starts on the top of the rod and then spiral around the rod till the guides are all on the bottom.  Similar to a spinning rod.   The transition usually takes 3 guides to get to the bottom of the rod.

What is the purpose of a spiral wrapped rod?
Any rod with all the guides located on top will be inherently unstable.  When a load is applied to the rod the line will cause the guides to want to twist or torque towards the direction of the load.  Which is the fish in the water.  With a spiral wrapped rod the guides are placed in a way that the line is pulled around the rod so the load will not cause the twist which makes this rod more stable.  So this now acts like a spinning rod which is the most stable rod available.

Check out the short video that shows what happens when the rod  has a load applied to it.
